Resumen: Experience, particularly spiritual experience, is not only the topic discussed in Fr. Ebo's volume, but also the context in which the work is embedded. The idea for this book was prompted by a seminar on Newman, which the author attended in 2012, and its writing progressed through his personal involvement with the Christian community within the Fon people of the Abomey town in Benin, formerly the capital of the West African Kingdom of Dahomey. The result is a monograph addressed to academics and graduate students in the field of spiritual theology, as well as the professional community of those concerned with pastoral care and spiritual counselling. The book is a revised form of Ebo's doctoral dissertation, which was defended at the Centre Sèvres, the Jesuit faculty of philosophy and theology in Paris. The language used is fairly accessible to non-specialists. However, the copious contents and the complex structure of the work, which holds together three parts (eight chapters), limit its readability and usability.
